In the romantic language of Italian, ‘Macchia’ means ‘the spot’.
Macchia Winery is truly the spot to experience unique zinfandels and other Italian varietals at reasonable prices. Owners Tim and Lani Holdener, who started operating in the Lodi Appellation in 2001, have discovered the hottest spots to source their grapes. Prestigious vineyards such as The Original Grandpere Vineyard, amongst the oldest producing zinfandel vineyards in the United States at the ripe age of 140 years old, fittingly supply the grapes that go into Macchia’s Prestigious Zinfandel wine.
Do you like your wines spicy? Sip on Macchia’s Adventurous Zinfandel, Righteous Barbera or Dangerous Port, sourced from the Lindsteadt Vineyard in Amador County. And what’s not to love about wines named Luxurious, Flirtatious, or Adventurous? The cool, laid back vibe at Macchia is a refreshing departure from more uptight wine regions, another reason to stay loyal to local Lodi Appellation wines. It’s no wonder that their wines have all won top honors in major wine competitions. The Holdeners’ philosophy as winemakers boils down to a simple concept: it’s all about the grape. Start with a quality lot of grapes picked at the perfect ripeness and lovingly create a high quality wine.
Heighten your tasting experience by taking advantage of Macchia’s lush grounds. Pack a picnic lunch and grab a seat on their patio. Play bocce ball or horseshoes, or just lounge under the mature shade trees with a glass of wine and complimentary snacks. Wine lovers are encouraged to join their Club Red wine club, for discounts on quarterly shipments. Peruse their stock of Library and Award-Winning wines which are unique to the winery and cannot be purchased anywhere else. It’s not all about the Zin at this fine establishment. Macchia produces Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, and Barbera, picking small lots of the finest grapes possible. It’s no wonder that Macchia Winery has become a Lodi hotspot, with as many as 100 visitors coming through on a typical weekend. The summer months promise plenty of fun to help you beat that valley heat.
During August, the action will heat up when Macchia Winery will have a live band every weekend. Come out and enjoy a variety of music and indulge in Paul’s Rustic Oven serving homemade, mouth-watering pizzas, a perfect pairing to the variety of wines being poured.
