Making a Place for the Arts, founded by Joy Neas and a group of local artists from community businesses, is taking steps to become a Stockton non-profit improvement organization. The program focuses on the arts, history and cultural diversity projects. In hopes of making the arts come alive in Stockton, the organization’s list of goals includes adaptive reuse of historic buildings, creation of murals throughout the city, an art center and public outreach. Their Summer ArtSplash, returning for its fourth year, encourages the community to enjoy the arts through free, self-guided tours of downtown Stockton venues decked with various styles of art. The event is offered the second Friday of every month until October, from 5 to 8 PM.
