Family Day at the Park – Literacy & Book Fair

Family-Day-1For a family outing that is just as educational as it is fun, stop by this year’s 17th annual Family Day at the Park. Don’t miss this family-fun event featuring several activities and booths that celebrate literacy and inspire creativity. And one of the best parts is, it’s free.

Enjoy the sunshine as you spend your day listening to storytellers, creating and designing your own bookmarks, or greeting cards. Get inspired with a variety of other arts and crafts, and interactive projects at every booth. From face-painting to parades, The Record’s Literacy and Book Fair has something entertaining and educational for any age group, even parents will walk away learning something new. They might even find themselves captivated by the magical stories, characters and Family-Day-2fun at the fair. There is also something for the seniors and grandparents. Follow the golden arches to The Golden Gateway, sponsored by organizations such as HSA Aging and Community Services and the Community Center for the Blind, for interactive activities and health related information for the whole family. Get started with a roadmap in the right direction toward a healthy and happy family by checking out the other health related activities such as Healthy Highway, sponsored by the Health Plan of San Joaquin, and Shriners, among others. Learn about the healthier options and programs available right here in our community. Get active and lead healthier lives by visiting the popular obstacle course spon-sored by Kaiser Permanente. For the newborns to five year olds, check out Alphabet Alley, sponsored by First 5 San Joaquin. Here, young kids can be captivated by projects made especially for them, while preschool organizations provide information for parents. But don’t stop there, check out The Stockton Arts Commission’s Creative Corner, where kids have free range to clown around and just have fun while enjoying all things art. Parents can sit back, relax, and watch the kids get imaginative with music, drama, and crafts from various community organizations. For exciting, captivating and magical stories told by local celebrities, check out the Enchanted Castle, sponsored by the Stockton Public Library. No book fair is complete without the opportunity to meet published authors and illustrators, The Library’s King  Arthur’s Court is your family’s chance to read, draw, ask questions and just be curious with these artists.

Family-Day-3The book fair and literacy event not only inspires artistic creativity, but promotes environmentally friendly practices showcased through various booths. Stop by the Eco Expressway to learn how you and your children can help make a more green and pristine world from one of the environmentally savvy businesses such as Community Connections, Valley Can, and Visionary Home Builders, Inc. Safety is also important at the Family Day in the Park. Stop by the Safety city and visit the family-favorite activities – complete with Police Officers, Ambulances and rescue dogs! In addition to local entertainers, singing, dancing, clowns, musicians, arts, crafts and interactive booths from all around San Joaquin County, the book fair will include a used book sale. The sale will encompass more than 5,000 titles at the park’s Library Lane. Receive a free book when you drop off a coat/jacket at Record Road. Whatever your interest, the Record’s Family Day at the Park will Increase your love of reading and learning and join the community in celebrating literacy, drama, art and children!
