We Dare You Not to Laugh: Awkward Family Photos comes to the Haggin Museum

Awkward family photos—we all have them. And at some point the web created a space for us to share these terrible gems with strangers across the world, perhaps in hopes of feeling like we’re not alone. The internet truly is a spectacular place. So, if you’ve enjoyed browsing AwkwardFamilyPhotos.com and want to see some of the most cringeworthy family photos out there, then this event is for you.

Since 2012, the Awkward Family Photo exhibition has been making its way around the nation. The first stop was in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on June 17, 2012 at the Kohler Arts Center. Starting November 17, the 200+ photo display—all housed in vintage, era-appropriate frames—made its way to the Haggin Museum for a spectacle unlike any other. One of the highlights of this presentation, though, is that the photos include “behind the awkwardness” stories, so you can learn a little more about the funny families smiling—or not—in the photographs.

Never heard of the Awkward Family Photos movement before? Well, we’re not quite sure where you’ve been hiding out, but the best way to explore what exactly you’ll find at the Haggin display is to head to the website and start scrolling through some of the hall of famers. If you find yourself laughing at photo after photo, we have a feeling you won’t want to miss the chance to see these pictures up close and personal.

This truly is an exhibit made for the whole family. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors (ages 65+), $5 for youth (ages 10-17), and free for students, museum members, and kids under the age of 10. If you really want to be part of the action, submit a photo for the website online.
