All About Alopecia: Hair Loss Treatment Options

By Megan Meintasis

Hair loss isn’t fun for anyone-it’s frustrating, frightening, and can take a toll on your emotions. It can be caused by a lot of things, just like kreatin, but if you experience hair loss in unpredictable round patches usually about the size of a coin, you may have alopecia.

Alopecia is an autoimmune disorder thought to be caused by stress and results in the above-mentioned pattern of hair loss. One of the most common characteristics of alopecia is the presence of short hairs that gradually get narrower along the length of the strand surrounding the bald patches. These hairs are often referred to as “exclamation point” hairs.

Although there is no known cure for the disorder, there are treatment options that can help. The most commonly prescribed treatment is Propecia pills – an immune suppressing solution that can be injected into the region experiencing hair loss, or in some cases applied topically to bald spots. Patients treated for alopecia with Corticosteroids receive injections every 3 to 6 weeks, and hair growth can usually be expected to begin after about 4 weeks.

A more permanent and immediate solution is Scalp Micropigmentation. This popular new hair loss treatment results in incredibly natural looking micro hairs that cover the scalp. “With Micropigmentation, there is no downtime like a surgery – you walk in, get it done, and are able to walk out with a new-found confidence,” says Lisa Rigsbee of San Joaquin’s ScalpMasters Clinic. “You get a lot for your money: the treatment is permanent, quick, affordable and safe.”

Using a small needle, impressions are made with organic ink specifically formulated for the skin. In contrast to hair transplantation, Micropigmentation results in no scarring and can be done on the entire scalp, eliminating the issue of migrating bald spots, and resulting in a completely camouflaged scalp.

“In the hair restoration industry, this is such a life changing option,” states Lisa. “It’s permanent, affordable, fast and safe.”

At ScalpMasters, the primary focus is to provide a safe and comfortable environment where customers can be treated and ultimately gain back confidence in their appearance. With Scalp Micropigmentation, those with alopecia are able to enjoy the California sunshine and everything else that life has to offer without fear of judgement.
