Crack Crab for a Cause

By Suzanne Ledbetter

Crab Feed season

Calling all crustacean lovers, it’s officially Dungeness Crab Feed season in San Joaquin County!

Non-profits from around the region host Crab Feeds to fundraise for great causes. So, bust out your crab crackers and checkbooks for a fun night benefitting local charities.

If you haven’t ever been to a Crab Feed, let’s break it down! Bring your appetite. These events are always all-you-can-eat and EAT you must! Depending on the event, consider bringing along your own butter and warmers, but definitely do not forget hand wipes!

Kick off the evening with cocktails or wine and find your way to the mess hall. Once everyone is seated, bust out the butter warmers, lemon slices, and crab crackers that you’ve brought from home. The volunteers will start passing salad, bread, pasta and more!

But wait…when a cavalry of servers with large containers filled with crab head your direction, start licking your chops. The sweet, delicate flesh of the crab dipped in butter is one of the finer things in life. So good, that you will probably seek out another Crab Feed before the season is over to quench your crab craving!
