Stockton Heat’s mascot spreads his wings

By copper Williams

Our new entourage of incredible players aren’t the only ones leaving scorch marks across the arena. Frankie the Firebird is here to add a little more fuel to the flames burning in our hockey-loving hearts!

1. Did you ever see ice before visiting Stockton Arena?

Indeed! I left Calgary in the summer, so there wasn’t ice or snow. I haven’t seen snow yet, but I think the ice at Stockton Arena is pretty great.

2. So far, what’s been your favorite play of the season?

Derek Grant’s second goal against San Jose! He split the defense and put the puck to the top of the net, where “Mama hides the cookies” as Brandon Kisker, our broadcaster, likes to say!

3. Do you know how to skate, Frankie?

Of course I do! But I’m currently in the market for a new pair of skates. It’s hard to find a pair that are my size!

4. What size shoe do you wear?

I think my shoe size is approximately half of my wingspan. I’m not sure of the exact number, but it’s safe to say that my shoes are extra-large!

5. Who’s your favorite Mascot buddy from the AHL?

My best mascot friends are Splash (Stockton Ports) and Dinger (Sacramento River Cats). Out of all the mascots in the AHL, the only one I’ve met so far has been Colonel Claude from Bakersfield, which is unfortunate because…

6. Who is your ultimate nemesis?

Colonel Claude is my ultimate nemesis! Stockton and Bakersfield have been rivals for many years and now that the teams are owned by Calgary and Edmonton, who have a deep-rooted rivalry in the NHL, the animosity is much worse!

Fill in the Blanks…

My advice to the fans is to… Keep bringing the energy. Every voice is important. Our team thrives off of your energy. It motivates us and gives us a reason to perform at our best.

If I could do any trick in the book, it would be… To fly down from the catwalk above the ice.

My favorite event so far is… The Paint the Ice event. I enjoyed watching the imagination of our fans unfold in front of me with their creations.
