Put A Little Art In Your Life

art leagueBy Copper Williams

The Stockton Art League has called the Elsie May Goodwin Gallery on Miracle Mile home for nearly 15 years. It has been one of the ultimate destinations in the city to find both amateur and professional pieces alike. These works of art are modeled across walls, shelves, and pedestals throughout the antique building- readily awaiting someone’s appreciative gaze. The League’s humble roots began with a group of artists in the 1930’s, gathering together each week to draw at Haggin Museum. That group flourished throughout the years, producing a non-profit that celebrated its 75th anniversary back in 2011.

The League’s members meet on the Mile on the second Thursday of each month to discuss the gallery, enjoy scheduled guest speakers and to watch professional artists and members alike demonstrate their craft. These meetings are open to all and free for anyone who’d like to take a glimpse at the artistic world the League has weaved. Beyond monthly meetings, the gallery is open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday, with special demonstrations and workshops throughout the month. New members are always welcome and nearly all works of art showcased at the galley are up for sale. Stop on by and soak in the plethora of masterpieces your fellow San Joaquinians have created!
