Blonde ambition takes the stage this June, as one of America’s favorite Harvard graduates capture the hearts of San Joaquinians, one melodic note at a time. The Legally Blonde musical production, presented by Stockton’s Civic Theatre from June 17 to July 12, features Sarah Kellner as Elle Woods. Her peppy adventures to self-discovery are based off of the tremendously successful movie by the same name, grossing more than $300 million worldwide, inspiring Broadway musicals and several Tony Awards nominations.
Elle’s journey begins as she decides to attend Harvard’s Law School after her boyfriend dumps her for his new life at the Ivy League university. In an attempt to win him over, she discovers her passion for law. She excels by graduating top of her class and proving her potential as a force to be reckoned with. Just as impressive as Elle’s unwavering wit, is the casts’ ability to bring this story to life on stage, complete with powerful vocals.
The shows’ Director, James Reed, says, “The main theme across all the characters, is finding the best version of yourself. We watch Elle go for what she thinks is the perfect life, and along the way meets some great people who help her find the best in herself. In return, she does the same for them,“ he explains. “This show teaches us to not judge a book by its cover and to truly get to know what is inside.”
