Temperatures lingering in the 90’s make it hard to consider comfy layers and cute boots, but our local boutiques have us excited about cooler weather and their newly stocked 2014 fall fashions. Ah! Fall! The season of transition; you no longer need to be slightly underdressed to combat the heat, or comfortably clothed and covered in sweat. Let the shopping begin! First, lets talk color. Kellie Gai, owner of Stella Boutique says deep purple, army green and the classics: black, white and gray are dominating fall styles this year. Kasey Malcoun of KCM Boutique adds, “We’ll be seeing a lot of burnt orange and pine green,” two unique colors bringing depth to our wardrobe! Also on the fall color palette is lighter shades like teal and bright cobalt. The wide variety and versatility of these colors make bold fall fashions that much more striking.
As far as fabrics go, PRET owner Judy Peterson notes Vegan Leather as the new, dominating fabric this season. “It’s huge! We are seeing it in everything from jackets to leggings.” And of course, popular fabrics like lace and perforated styles are holding their ground as we transition from summer, in thicker, flowing forms. Our local experts see both re-occurring and new cuts and styles for both above and below the belt fashions. “I have noticed a move away from the oversized tops to a more structured shape with cleaner lines; however oversized sweaters are still in,” explains Kasey Malcoun. When it comes to pants and jeans, Malcoun says, “My favorite pants for fall have a looser straight leg as opposed to the ultra-skinny pant of the past seasons.” Gai is also noticing trends shying away from the skinny style, saying, “Silky, flowing fabric pants are a great look this season.” They both agree the go-to legging, and spandex infused jean will continue to hug our legs and keep us comfortable and fashionable well into winter.
Another great item following us into the cooler months is the fringe inspired kimono. This style will make a strong debut in thicker fabrics and fall-focused colors and cuts. Worn over a lightweight cami, a kimono will be your best friend on sunny, fall days.
So, look longingly into the fall months with a focus on comfortable, flowing styles matching the equally enjoyable temperatures awaiting us. Happy fall, fashionistas!
