Swim, Boat and Play the Lodi Lake Way

We all know and love Lodi Lake for obvious reasons; it’s home to the beloved Zinfest, offers a beachy feel in our own backyard and gives us ample room to rev our gas-powered watercrafts.

Fed by the Mokelumne River, Lodi Lake took form in the late 19th century as a seasonal lake created by makeshift dams. The creation of The Woodbridge Dam in 1910 expanded the lake, and a generous donation from landowner Louis T. Mason made the scenic spot what it is today. Surrounded by mature elm, oak and walnut trees, the natural body of water has remained home to many plants and animals that lived among the Mokolumne Indians.

Serving as a sanctuary for deer, squirrels, turtles and a variety of bird species, Lodi Lake has also become a sanctuary for San Joaquin residents. Remaining a refreshing 70 degrees in the summer heat, the lake is a local getaway offering a sandy shoreline, a safe swim area equipped with buoys and lifeguards, and a wading pool for children. The lakes amenities make for a perfect daylong outing, with comfortable showers and restrooms, barbeque grills, picnic tables, horseshoe pits and soft green grass.

The Headwaters Kayak Shop serves Lodi Lake lovers looking to adventure out on the water. Kayaks, canoes, pedal boats and stand-up paddleboards are available to rent on an hourly, half day or all day basis. The company was built on a desire to make kayaking more accessible to those in the Central Valley, and has successfully done so, with its expert instruction and unique opportunities like the Social Paddle; a weekly, guided, Wednesday evening sunset paddle on the Mokelumne River. The Headwaters Kayak Shop also offers a host of affordable, all inclusive classes and tours to get you out and active this summer!
