More than Just a Cup of Tea

What’s better than a cozy cup of tea on a cold, rainy winter day? Nothing. It soothes, warms, and boasts a host of immune support. Next time you’re sipping, you’ll feel even more fulfilled knowing all the goodness that’s steeping from the bag.

teawoooooMany studies support the wide range of health benefits teas offer. From reduced risk of stroke, dementia, heart disease, and blindness to increased focus, and anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, Harvard Health Publications report that drinking tea regularly seems to be associated with better health. In fact, tea consumption can even promote weight loss!

Health benefits come from chemicals called polyphenols (catechins and epicatechins) that are enriched in tea and boosted through its fermentation process. Both chemicals are antioxidants; catechins found in green and white teas boost metabolism while polyphenols are thought to strengthen bones, improve mood, protect against breat, prostate, lung, and skin cancer, and help regulate blood sugar (glucose).

However, some options have become less heartwarming with the use of pesticides, genetically modified organisms, and epichlorohydrin- a plastic that prevents breakage of tea bags but can be released into your drink and increase cancer risks and stomach problems. So, don’t just go buying any brand.  Organic Tazo, Traditional Medicinals, and Yogi brand teas, commonly found in groceries throughout San Joaquin are free of harmful chemicals and GMO’s!
