Photographers, fashionista’s, proud parents and selfie queens can all find common ground through Instagram, a photo-focused application that launched in October of 2010, racking up one million users in two months of its debut.

The number on photo social platform, founded by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger and bought by Facebook in 2012, is the modern day Polaroid. The young and old alike can connect based on a variety of interests ranging from agriculture and art, and beauty products and celebrities. Today, nearly 150 million users have shared over 16 billion photos of their food, kids, pets and vacations….and it doesn’t stop there.

  1. It Caters to Your Needs

For those not-so-savvy smart phone users out there, Instagram’s easy operating system is a breeze. The user-friendly app makes it nearly effortless to connect with your existing Facebook friends and find new ones that share you interest (thanks to hashtags and the newly added “Suggestions for You.”) Take a photo with a simple click of a button and be directed to the editing page that offers a variety of fun and funky filters and editing options. Just like that, anyone can create their own digital photo album.

  1. The Perfect Way to Share and Save Moments

Who really has the time to sort through all the photos on their phone or HD card in remembrance of special times? This app can truly be your go-to photo album for friends and family, allowing you to share your most precious moments and leave the three-hour life debrief at your next reunion behind. Keeping in touch through photos seems more personal than posts, while still offering the ability to comment and converse. Unlike digital cameras, Instagram-equipped smart phones are always with us, so we won’t be missing out on that perfect shot.

  1. You Can Keep Up with Your Kids

Another perk to this app is keeping connected to your child and seeing what they’re up too. This app is extremely popular among youngsters, and many have said goodbye to Facebook. Like any social network, Instagram is much safer for children when monitored by an adult-but it’s a great way to inspire your children as they browse through endless photos that ignite their interests in activities, the arts and more.

  1. It Ignites Creativity

Whether you’re a professional photographer or simply love snapping photos, Instagram is your place. Following people that share your interests, whether it be home décor, food, parenting, specific products or projects, their search engine will connect you with endless opportunities to ignite your creativity, find events, new happenings and more. San Joaquin Magazine’s Instagram can serve as your go-to for all things San Joaquin. Because a photo’s worth a thousand words, we share our favorite food, fashions, event and more on our account- giving you instant access to a broad range of resources, businesses and information for our area.

  1. It is Free

The old saying “nothing is free” does not apply to this awesome app. With no strings attached you can utilize Instagram in all of its glory, without paying a penny. You can’t beat that!
